Abkhazia information

Music is extremely important in Abkhazian culture. Abkhazian music uses a range of traditional instruments such as strings, percussion and woodwind. Abkhazia has also produced a number of its own instruments, and one of the most recognisable Abkhazian string instruments is the "Aphyartsa" - a two-stringed instrument with a narrow spindle-shaped frame, played with a bow and handmade from alder wood. Another instrument found in Abkhazia is the "Ayumaa" - a triangular harp with 14 horsehair strings. Both instruments, along with accordions and hand drums, are found throughout the musical genres in Abkhazia, showing just how important traditions are to the people. Ensembles are very common in Abkhazia, where men and women can demonstrate their powerful vocals in a capella, singing the ancient traditional songs of their regions. Our Youtube channel offers a range of genres, from traditional wedding music, to translated western classics, bringing the uniqueness of the Abkhazian language together with the culture and history of the country.
